About the Authors Richard W. Hazlett is a geology professor at Pomona College in Claremont, California. He has been an interpretive ranger at Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, a research technician at the Hawaii Volcano Observatory and a geology professor at the University of Hawaii at Hilo.

Donald W. Hyndman is co-founder of the Roadside Geology series, books that bring geology to the general public. When he is not writing or editing books, Hyndman teaches geology at the University of Montana in Missoula.
